Spirituality in the Anime Blogosphere: Buddha and Madoka

After the final episodes of Madoka aired in late April, there was a rush of postings about the shows, with many discussing religious aspects of the finale.  While I saw Christian elements in the final episodes, others focused on the the Buddhist principles expressed in the series end.  I studied Buddhism in college, but that feels like a separate life ago, and I admit that the Buddhist symbolism in Madoka Magica was lost on me.  Luckily, two awesome bloggers spent particular time outlining these ideas.

Yesterday, Jonathan Tappan of FunBlog wrote a post that functions as an accompanying piece to Yi’s extensive analysis.  Tappan had previously posted a wonderful guide to Buddhism and anime.

About TWWK

TWWK, known to outlaws and lawmen alike as Charles, lives deep in the heart of Texas, where he drives cattle and boot scoots (not really - though he does sport a pair of rattlesnake boots). Somehow in this frontier, he also finds time for his wife, children, and church. Oh, and anime, too.
